Thompson Middle School is a three-year comprehensive public middle school located within Middletown Township, New Jersey, and is part of the Middletown Township Public School District. The school serves 933 students from parts of Middletown Township. Other students from Middletown Township attend Thorne Middle School and Bayshore Middle School.

Thompson Middle School and Middletown School District received national attention in the fall of 2001 when its teachers went on strike for the second time in three years. The strike disrupted classes for several days, and hundreds of teachers were jailed.[1] After the strike, many members of the union leadership stepped down. There has not been a strike since 2001. Also, some parents volunteered to have classes at their houses during this time period.
At Thompson,the teachers offer choices of Band, Chorus, of Exploratory Cycle. All students MUST take this following classes:
Social Studies, Math, Science' Language Arts, Gym (two quarters), Health (one quarter), Computers(one quarter), Spanish or French, Band, Cycle, or Chorus
